A gentle, doable routine to anchor calm – no apps or incense required.
Why ten minutes works
Ten minutes is long enough to feel a shift and short enough to fit into real life. Think of it like brushing your inner teeth: a small daily act that prevents buildup.
Set up (1 minute)
- Sit on a chair with both feet grounded or on a cushion.
- Relax your entire body, no need to put strain on any part.
- Focus fully on your breath, the in and out breath.
- Optional: can play soothing instrumental classical music in background
The 10-minute flow
- Arrive (1 min): Three slow inhales & exhales; feel the body being relaxed.
- Breath (3 mins): Notice in–out. When the mind wanders, return back tour breath. Optional: count 1–10 on out-breaths, then restart.
- Body scan (3 mins): From crown to toes, sweep attention; release tightness or stress.
- Heart phrases (2 mins): Silently repeat, “I am calm. I am kind. I am present. I am Loving”
- Intention (1 min): Ask, “What quality do I want to carry into the next hour?” Name it.
What to do with distractions
Mind will engage in thoughts and that is common. Just be consistent. Soon Mind will surrender to your will.
Where to place this habit
- Morning: before phone, after water.
- Workday: right after sitting at your desk.
- Evening/Night: before going to bed.
Consistency beats intensity. Ten minutes a day for two weeks will teach you more about your mind than two hours once a month.
